Chapter 2

**Game Over: Entering Shame Mode**

The mechanical voice echoed through the air, announcing her defeat without giving her a moment to react. Evelyn Winterrose blinked as her surroundings shifted, and after adjusting to the new light, she found herself in a completely different place.

As an experienced player of Home, she had initially chosen the beginner mode. Still, she had managed to reach the final level before failing. The sudden change of scenery felt familiar, as if she had entered a teleportation sequence she had grown accustomed to.

She sat motionless, maintaining a quiet demeanor with her head bowed. Using the tip of her tongue, she brushed her teeth and spotted a small red birthmark on her finger. The layout of the room around her quickly sparked memories of who she was in this new body.

She was back at the First Challenge.

Despite the constant body changes in the game, she still retained her name: Evelyn Winterrose. The physical transformations were subtle, but the age adjustments aligned with the game's parameters. While she was physically younger, her demeanor and some minor traits had shifted slightly.

Knowing that she had returned to the beginning of the story, Evelyn felt a sense of relief. After all, this was just an appetizer to the main course of the game; it was a light experience for an H-game, where passing the level only required her to sleep with her non-blood-related Foster Brother.

As a respected lady of the General's manor, she had always been heavily favored by her father, who spoiled her mercilessly. His martial background meant he had little patience for archaic social conventions, and with her Foster Brother's father, Edmund, dying to save the General, there was no grandmother around to intervene in their budding relationship.

They were childhood friends. Although her Foster Brother had never shown any romantic interest in her, it was well known that most young men found it hard to resist charming girls. This first task in the game would only require her to nod and make a gesture with her hand to complete it.

Evelyn mused that perhaps the game developers had considered that most people would struggle to immerse themselves in an H-game, thus easing the entry barrier for beginners with a simple first level…

But wait. What had the system said when she failed at the last level?

Shame mode.

"Come on, Uncle Agatha, just please think it over. If you don't respond, how am I supposed to explain this to Uncle Harold later?" A young woman sat beside Evelyn, glancing at her with concern. She took Evelyn's hand with a friendly grip, earnestly requesting a response.

Once back in the world of the First Challenge, Evelyn’s mind raced with confusion, but it only felt like a few moments had passed. She knew this young woman was observing her closely, but as a stranger, she hesitated to speak.

Her previous experiences echoed in her mind. She had been whisked into the H-game world with the grim realization that failing to entice men into bed would lead to fatal consequences. Discovering that her target in this first trial was a childhood friend only heightened her emotional turmoil. Yet, fear had driven her to face each challenge one step at a time. Now, she struggled to recall where she had buried her modesty, but somehow considered this once-unbearable initial task to be “not too complex.”

The bewilderment lingered, and the stakes felt freshly daunting, but Evelyn was steeled by her previous victories and the knowledge that she had always been capable of rising to any occasion.

Chapter 3

In the crowded room, Evelyn Winterrose remained quiet as Lord Crayton, a character new to her gaming experience, animatedly spoke with her. She could glean more about the game’s setting and intricacies through the tactile interactions around her, having played “Home” sufficiently to navigate its nuances. Between brief exchanges, she pieced together a few essential details.

The young lady of the house, Lady Crayton, whom everyone referred to as Aunt Mount, had a foster brother, Elias Crane, who recently married. Oddly, he was wed to a squire, and now Lady Crayton's friend, Isabella, who had just received the news of a pregnancy, added another layer to the plot. This shift would surely ramp up the stakes and complexity within the game. But why was she being called "Uncle Mother Agatha"?

There was a prevailing belief among the officer ranks that male and female characters held equal weight in their societal standing, and during her last experience, she had found herself humorously dubbed "Mount Mother Agatha." Clearly, Elias Crane had no other contemporaries like Isabella, and Evelyn suspected the introduction of two more officers’ children, whether brothers or sisters, would only serve to complicate matters further—as if she wasn’t already knee-deep in enough drama.

Feeling the heat of the moment, Evelyn turned her attention to Crayton, who was grinning from ear to ear. “Cough, Crayton,” Lady Crayton began, her voice lightly teasing. "You just found out you're expecting, and I can't believe you're preoccupied with these matters as you should be caring for yourself…"

Evelyn intended to support Lady Crayton’s previous comment, hoping to discover more about their earlier discussion while avoiding being dismissive or giving in to random inquiries that could affect her calculations within the game. Too late. Lady Crayton unrolled her entire story like a scroll.

“Ah, dear Uncle Mother Agatha! It’s precisely because I’m pregnant that I’m in a rush to help my husband. He’s a young squire, full of energy and always training. I can’t let him forget what a lady's touch feels like for even a moment!”

She watched as Crayton waved a handkerchief laughing, his expression betraying an inexplicable mix of pride and mischief. Despite his elegant demeanor, there was an awkward matchmaking tension in the air—a fact that had Evelyn questioning the nature of the challenges before her; this so-called ‘shame mode’ wasn’t something her current mindset could handle. What would this even entail as a game mechanic?

Crayton continued, “I asked him if he had anyone in mind for a companion, and after some thought, he mentioned you. You can't imagine how thrilled I was! In our world, names don’t matter so much as being well-matched; you see how other households handle things. When they suddenly pick a maid as a ‘concubine’ or flaunt forgotten nobility from their grandmothers—how can any family remain harmonious? It’s siblings like us who understand true warmth and companionship.”

Evelyn was utterly bewildered. Lady Crayton seemed to be straightforwardly suggesting her sister should warm her brother’s bed… What a drastic tone shift! The conversation had suddenly escalated to a level that felt uncomfortably scandalous.

Here, at her first challenge, the unfolding drama lacked boundaries. What was she supposed to do with this plot twist?

Chapter 4

### Chapter Crane: "Sister, Would You Please Comply with My Request"

"Sister, would you go along with my request?"

Even if the person asking was strong and imposing, even if he had the good looks that could lighten the dreariest of days, even if his tone was filled with affection, and even if his gaze was deep and focused...

Clara Winterrose maintained her expressionless facade with tenacity.

After the afternoon visitor, her brother, left, the insidious Codex had rushed in, flooding her mind with memories of her character. This wasn’t how it happened last time. With these recollections, her expressions varied in intensity.

In this iteration, Evelyn Winterrose was her own brother, with whom she shared memories of bug-catching and mischievous childhood skins. They were innocent and pure—a bond devoid of any impurities. With these memories, she completely immersed herself in the role; how could she then turn against her very own brother? It truly felt like a shameful game.

Not to mention the Codex’s twisted sense of humor—he set everything up for her. Saying it felt as restrictive as being pinned beneath Harold was no exaggeration.

Inside the general’s manor, there were several notable males: her father, General Edmund Winterrose; her eldest brother, Alaric Winterrose; and her younger brother, Tobias Winterrose. Previously, Alaric and Tobias had returned to the capital after a victorious campaign alongside their long-time friend, a Squire. With their father stationed at the border, Tobias was now marrying, and with these circumstances, it made any man particularly eager for female companionship.

Within the memories flooded into her, Evelyn could picture her brother’s warm embrace as they greeted each other after the mission, just as they had when they were kids—they were never shy about their affection in their home. At any chance, Evelyn would be holding hands or caressing his face, and soon, those touches were starting to spark something more.

Of course, the Codex had meticulously arranged for Evelyn to “accidentally” twist her ankle in the yard, leading to Tobias encountering her and carrying her back to her room.

During that brief distance, all Tobias could focus on were the two ample curves resting against his back, his hands clutching her perfectly rounded form. With that, the notion of “Winterrose is my sister” began to fade before “Winterrose is a woman” took precedence.

Once they arrived back in her room, for reasons none could quite comprehend, they found themselves tumbling onto the bed. In a moment, Tobias’ hand brushed against her thigh; though they immediately separated, his desire was no longer easily dismissed.

He used to channel his pent-up energy into his wife, Isabella, but after finding out that Isabella was pregnant, his irritability had grown day after day. And this change had not gone unnoticed by Isabella, leading to subsequent events.

With the memories courtesy of the Codex mingling with that intimate touch, Evelyn Winterrose understood more than three-quarters of the situation at hand—she could fill in the blanks.

“Could you… please let me have a moment alone?” she said to Tobias, who sat opposite her in her chamber. Rising, she ducked behind the screen.

If only she could mash her face in frustration and run to the peak of Mount Granite to scream into the valley below.

Chapter 5

Evelyn Winterrose felt trapped. She couldn’t refuse or agree; she understood that every decision she made could alter the trajectory of their tangled lives. Hours had passed since she had stumbled into this pivotal moment, and she had already pondered the consequences of giving in to Tobias’s advances again. The mysterious game they played was not known for its kindness.

Alone in the afternoon, she endured yet another invasive memory transfer from The Codex, which seemed more intent on overwhelming her with information than clarifying the rules of the game. From what she gathered, this were clearly hidden traps laid out for her. A knot of anxiety twisted in her stomach as she contemplated her next move.

From behind the screen, Evelyn heard the distinctive sound of a door clicking shut—it had to be Tobias returning home, perhaps even making sure to close the door behind him. A wave of relief washed over her, and she instinctively covered her face with both hands and let out a muffled groan of frustration.

“Oh no, the sister is actually reluctant about this!” a voice chimed in, teasingly.

Evelyn's spine went rigid as she turned to see Tobias, his expression a mix of playful hurt and genuine concern, mimicking the hurt look of a brother she vaguely remembered. Startled, she stepped back until her back hit the wall. She couldn’t help but know that no amount of posturing would change the reality of their physical disparity. Tobias effortlessly lifted her, both eventually settling down on the straw-strewn floor.

“I thought… it was just a matter of asking… Was I wrong about everything?” Tobias’s tone dripped with a poignant kind of vulnerability. Earlier that morning, he had learned from his wife Isabella that Evelyn was being approached about the situation. The whole day had been a whirlwind of apprehension, and now, finding himself back home only to receive the disheartening news from Isabella left him reeling. He’d arrived anxious but mostly excited to see Evelyn.

To be turned down was unexpected. The weight of his disappointment struck him harder than he'd anticipated, revealing layers of attachment he hadn’t fully recognized. Initially, he had figured that he would broach the topic lightly, and if Evelyn decided to marry, he would provide a substantial dowry, akin to a good brother’s duty. He never imagined it would take such a toll on him to be rejected, realizing that he undeniably cared for her more than he'd ever thought.

“It’s probably too soon to talk about it,” he mused, though he felt an eagerness bubbling beneath. Perhaps the desire he harbored was just an infatuation that lingered longer than usual—a passing fancy he should ultimately let go. But in this moment, holding on felt imperative.

“Evelyn, when you say you need time to think, you're really just going to refuse me eventually, right?” Tobias pouted, his voice deceptively soft, dramatically contradicting the ardor of his grasp on her waist as his fingers caressed her back.

“Let… let me think it through,” she stuttered, her desire to cry evident. If the conditions had matched their prior encounter, she might have found the courage to give in, yet she needed clarity from the Codex first. She couldn’t bear to fail again.

Caught in his embrace, Evelyn felt paralyzed. She was fully aware of the way Tobias's hands explored her body, reveling in every curve, his arousal pressing against her unceremoniously from beneath his garments.

“Tobias,” she managed to whisper as he leaned in closer, intent on kissing her, and finally summoned her courage to push his face away. But her next words unraveled her: “Can I ask someone else first?”

“Who are you thinking of asking? Tobias? You really want to bring him into this?”

In a flash of panic, Evelyn gasped at her own slip of the tongue, unable to admit she would consult the Codex. It was good fortune that Tobias redirected the focus, but why would she ever consider involving Alaric, her eldest brother, in matters of such intimacy? Vulnerability gripped her heart as she considered how quickly he could become a stranger the moment she dared tread into this territory.
