Breaking Free from Shadows

Chapter 1

As the man's strong, powerful thighs swung at her face again, Alice Johnson felt a wave of vertigo, and it seemed as if she would never hear the world again.

After a ringing in her ears, she once again heard Daniel Miller's cold, icy growl, "Alice, just because my father's the deputy mayor doesn't mean he won't make a move on me. He told me, if not for our three years of husband and wife, he would really kill me!"

The man's tone was vicious, unforgiving, as if he could not wait to break her into pieces. "Three years of marriage!" Alice covered her already swollen and painful cheeks, her eyes were wide open, through the blurred tears, she looked at the so-called husband in her mouth, as if facing a stranger.

No, not even a stranger.

She didn't want to cry, but some things, some people, the strongest of wills, could not be controlled in the end, and the tears finally flowed down, like beads on a string, like a broken thread, the first of its kind. "Daniel ......"

She looked at the handsome face, forced herself to squeeze out a smile, although this smile is even worse than crying. "Three years, oh ...... famous but not real, look up to my nose and pass three years, I even have the face to say love!"

She lowered her head, no longer look at that three years to let her heart like ashes of the man, eyes focused on the tiger's mouth dripping tears, seems to mutter to herself: "Daniel, once heard people say, a person's name actually represents his temperament, did not think it is really like this, I am indeed as the name, he really can be cold to such a point. "

She held back her tears, tilted her head up, glanced to the white as snow ceiling, took a deep breath, "around and around, after three years of trials and tribulations, he finally died heart, I can rest assured, from now on, he will never bind me, Alice Johnson has fulfilled Daniel!"

The last few words, she said word by word with extra clarity, also extra loud.

Daniel, standing opposite her, froze slightly, his eyes locked on this woman who shed tears in front of him for the first time in three years, watching her eyelashes with tears fluttering gently, an inexplicable annoyance instantly spread to the whole body.

Subconsciously, he even began to regret his actions just now. When he turned around and left in big steps, cold and merciless words escaped from his thin lips, like a sharp dagger, straight into Alice's heart that has long been fragile: "Tomorrow I will let someone send the divorce agreement."

"Right now, no need to wait until tomorrow." Alice's back is firm, her voice is not loud, but with unquestionable determination, "Anyway, it's still early, it's only after three o'clock."

"Are you off your meds?" Alice's best friend Linda Baker frowned, heard that she and Daniel have been divorced, and no pennies demanded, froze for a few seconds, couldn't help but want to knock her head.

"He said, 'Ms. Johnson, I may be the daughter of the deputy mayor, but I shouldn't have to give up money for no reason.' He told me a long time ago that people can have conflicts with each other, but never with money, and besides, the deputy mayor's daughter is not like other daughters." Linda said eagerly.

Alice smiled bitterly and stirred the spoon in her hand, "What good is money when the person is gone?"

Just like the coffee in her hand, no matter how scary the price is, when it gets cold, it is no different from the instant coffee bought in the supermarket.

"My poor friend, why don't you realize? It's because they're gone that they need the money." Linda continued to ramble on, trying to convince Alice to recover some of the financial losses.

In the middle of her words, she realized that Alice's gaze was not focused, her bright eyes were staring at the coffee cup in her hand, her heart tightened, and she hurriedly grabbed Alice's hand: "Alice, let's not talk about other things, anyway, the marriage has been divorced, so it's kind of redundant. I'll tell you how you're going to get past Martha."

Alice finally shifted her gaze to her best friend, and slowly said, "Then let's take it one step at a time."

"Well ...... I'm going to see her tomorrow." Linda looked at her helplessly, "Daniel can be kind of a bachelor now anyway."

Alice shook her head, smilingly refused: "No need, some things, should face must face, not to mention, Daniel's status now, may have already been on the headlines of some tabloids."

Alice's hunches are never wrong, especially at this moment, when she took a taxi home, she saw that the lights should have been turned off in the Johnson Mansion, but the lights were on, and she clearly realized what was waiting for her ahead.

Taking a deep breath of the cool air, Alice strides toward the main building.

"Dad, Mom, why aren't you asleep?" She tried to make her voice sound the same as it always did, greeting them as she normally would, and headed upstairs.

"Don't I have anything to say to them?" Just as she stepped onto the stairs, Martha's shrill voice came from behind her, and Alice shivered.

"I've been busy all day, I'm a bit tired, I'd like to take an early rest, let's talk about it tomorrow." Looking at her parents, Alice's words already had a clear plea in them.

"Didn't you hear what my mom said?" Alice's father Edward Johnson questioned.

Edward came from the military, transferred to the police department more than twenty years ago, and is now the chief of police, but also serves as the city's honorary deputy mayor, a name, but no real power.

That's what Linda said made the deputy mayor's daughter so special.

Although Alice is the daughter of a high-ranking official, she is not as powerful as the children of other high-ranking officials, especially since she is not Martha's biological daughter.

In fact, the Johnson family never hid the fact that she wasn't Martha's, and Alice didn't know who her birth mother was, except that an old maid had mentioned that her mother had been an unsavory mistress.

Because of this, she never complained about Martha, but rather felt inferior.

Chapter 2

What kind of heart does a woman need to accept her husband's child with another woman? Compared to the orphans who grew up with abusive stepmothers or were abandoned by their biological parents, she felt blessed, especially when she met Daniel three years ago, which gave her a sense of warmth and hope in life.

Alice Johnson lowered her head in thought for a moment, then found the courage to walk toward the couch. She didn't sit down, but stood on the edge of the coffee table, her hands nervously tugging at the corners of her coat.

"Sit down." Edward Johnson glanced at his daughter, the bright lights of the living room still evident at a glance, even though the redness in her face had faded considerably.

"Dad, I ...... "Alice still did not sit, took a deep breath, looked toward Edward, "I and Daniel divorced."

This sentence she originally thought would be difficult to say, did not expect, the established fact is so simple to say out. Three years ago, the scene in which she had insisted on marrying Daniel came back to her, determined and persistent. She told Edward, who remained on the fence, "Dad, you can trust me, I'll be happy."

"Chenchen, have you been happy in the past three years?" Edward looked at his daughter's red, swollen face and sighed, "You never told us you were happy?"

Alice had never heard her father speak to her in such a gentle voice, her eyes warmed up, and she almost burst into tears, "Dad ...... I ......"

Edward got up, embraced his daughter into his arms whose shoulders were trembling, "Silly child, since you're not happy, why didn't you tell us earlier? We are your parents, we will stand by you no matter what."

Martha Green did not say anything, nor did she get up, always maintaining her elegance as a noblewoman, observing everything with a light touch.

"Martha," Edward's tone revealed a hint of dissatisfaction, "You also comforted Morn."

Martha still didn't move, after years of good maintenance, her hands were still as white as jade, slowly picking up the newspaper on the coffee table, "Tell me first, why did Daniel divorce you for no reason?"

Daniel although let outsiders feel the cold character, do not smile, but is definitely a talented and beautiful man.

Alice looked towards the newspaper, the news of her and Daniel's divorce was indeed on the front page, but the truth of the divorce was not mentioned, this kind of ignorance rather triggered people's curiosity, even Martha, who usually did not like to pry into people's private affairs, also could not help but ask about it.

"They got bored." Alice tried to remember, and squeezed out five words.

Martha obviously is not so easy to fool, snapped, will white hand slapped on the case, "Alice, you really let me down, actually divorced with him but still defend him, tell me, is he outside a woman?"

"No." Alice lowered her head, her eyes once again locked on the newspaper, the published photo is her and Daniel's wedding photo, separated by a shadow, with the large headline, it does complement each other.

Martha frowned, was about to snap, there was a whiny exclamation from the doorway, "Mommy ......"

This new fashionable name, let Martha instantly anger subside person, is the Johnson family's daughter Emily.

"How to come back also did not call in advance, I hurriedly let the old Qin to pick you up." Martha directly toward the door, pulling her daughter's hand, sticking it to her mouth to breathe, "It's cold outside, right?"

She then turned to the door and ordered, "Fang, quickly boil a bowl of bird's nest congee for the lady."

Emily snuggled in Martha's arms, "Mommy, you're still up this late, did you guess I'd be back today and waited for me."

Her voice, accompanied by the shyness of a little girl, created a cozy atmosphere.

Alice was silent for a moment, turned around and walked towards the upper floor, during the whole process, no one called her again, and no one looked at her again, including her own father who had just embraced her in his arms.

At the top of the stairs, she couldn't help but look back, Emily was already sitting on the couch with Martha and Edward, pulling out gifts from her suitcase.

"Daddy, I got you this pipe, do you like it?"

Edward smiled and put the pipe to his lips, at this moment Emily took out another silk scarf and put it around Martha's neck, "Mommy, this is a gift I picked up after shopping in many stores, my feet are almost broken."

"Thank you, dear daughter." Martha, who never sought luxury, called herself by her daughter's name, and the crow's feet at the corners of her eyes showed traces of happiness.

Alice, stung to tears by this happy scene, turned and strutted toward her room.

Turning on the bathroom light, the mirror reflected her face, the right half of which was still red and swollen despite the hours of ice packs, her lips were pale, her hair was disheveled, and she looked like a ghost.

"You're a vicious woman!" Daniel's angry look came back to mind.

"Daniel......" Alice didn't even have time to say anything before she saw him glaring at her, his anger already flaring.

"Did you go to Monica this afternoon?" Daniel's eyes were ablaze, seemingly ready to burn her to ashes.

She froze, forgetting the pain in her face, and looked directly into his handsome face. It was the same face she'd seen through the windshield three years ago that had caused her to give up the opportunity to study abroad and become a regular office worker and counselor at Greenfield High.

Daniel stared at her, and when he saw that she didn't say anything, his anger rose in his heart. He grabbed her wrist and squeezed it, as if he could hear the bones dislocating, "Alice, tell me, did you go to Monica this afternoon?"

She did her best to force out a smile, and looked steadily at her angry husband, "Yes, I went to her, why shouldn't I go to her ......"

Before she could finish her sentence, Daniel violently shook off her hand, his big strong hand swung at her face once again, did it hurt?

Chapter 3

Ouch?

However, physical pain cannot be compared to inner pain.

Her heart, which had already faded away, was once again deeply stabbed, as if someone was holding a sharp knife, cutting through it, and even though she was in pain and blood was pouring from her liver and intestines, she couldn't even let out a cry.

Someone said, the most painful thing in life is to meet the wrong person at the wrong time. For her, this saying couldn't be more apt, and she was now deeply feeling the consequences of her wishful thinking.

Closing her eyes, she tried not to fall back into her memories. Opening her eyes again, she unscrewed the cold water faucet on her left side, scooped up a handful of biting tap water, and slapped it directly onto her face. Since the divorce was finalized, she didn't want to think about him anymore, about him.

After drying her face with a towel, she started to drain the bathtub. Usually she only took showers, but today, she felt an unprecedented coldness, and desperately wanted to take a hot bath to dispel the coldness that had spread from the bottom of her heart to her entire body.

When she took off her clothes and stepped into the bathtub, her mind once again involuntarily surfaced his face, her ears seemed to echo his intimate call: "Monica ......" These two words delicately flowed out of her mouth, and the soft smile on his face in her memory seemed to come alive again. The soft smile on his face in his memory seemed to come back to life.

At that time, she was sitting on the other side of the glass, just one meter away from him, staring wide-eyed at her husband, who had never shown her a smile during the three years of their marriage, smiling tenderly at another woman.

That woman she knew, even can be said to be familiar with, although not really girlfriends, but is her four years in college classmates.

"Ms. Alice, are you okay?" Sitting across from her was the parent of a high school senior, apparently unaware that her English had always been very good, begging her to give her daughter a pre-test tutorial for the upcoming college entrance exam.

With a soft heart, and not wanting to spend her free time thinking, she agreed. Unexpectedly, she ran into such a bloody thing, she witnessed in front of outsiders in the high and mighty husband cheated on his wife.

She quickly averted her gaze, gazing down at the black coffee in front of her, "It's okay, you tell me the time, I'll go when I have time."

The parent froze for a moment, obviously not expecting her to agree so quickly, thanked her gratefully, waved for the waiter to pay the bill, and at the same time asked for a piece of paper and a pen, wrote her home address and the time of her child's tutoring and handed it to her.

She took the paper, lightly swept a glance, through the other side of the time given can be seen, the parents obviously have very high expectations of their daughter, arranged for tutoring time is exactly the days she got off work early.

When she walked out of the café, the pair of men and women who were so pleasant to look at just now had already disappeared.

After saying goodbye to the parents, she walked over to where Daniel had been standing, and looked into the glass out of habit.

Heh, it's really nice.

No wonder, when she met his eyes briefly, he didn't react, his eyes as black as ink were unperturbed. It turned out that this cafe had installed a single-sided glass in order to protect the privacy of the customers, from the inside could look to the outside, but from the outside could not see the inside.

"Alice!" the owner of the house, when he saw her standing in the doorway, froze for two seconds, and then smiled faintly, "What brings you here?"

She looked bland, and did not show a

She looked calm, and didn't act like other women who found out that their husbands were keeping mistresses. In fact, she would like to be like a shrew to vent, but she did not have the courage, after three years of marriage let her know her husband's feelings for her.

"The house is beautifully decorated." Those were her words as she looked around the house, and they were the first words she said as she entered the house.

Monica raised her willowy eyebrows slightly, her eyes showing a smugness she couldn't hide, "It's not bad, Daniel designed it all."

The self-evident him, she knew very well in her heart.

She turned around and glanced at Monica, secretly thought to herself, really is the nose on the face, "haha ......" she helplessly laughed, "Monica, three years, I've been married to him for three years, it's amazing that I've been unaware of the existence of you in our marriage. I've been married to him for three years, and I didn't even know you existed in our marriage."

Monica seemed surprised and innocent, her eyes opened wide as she looked at her.

To come here and say a few words calmly was the greatest burden her heart had ever borne. She looked deeply at Monica, turned around and was about to walk towards the hidden door.

"Oops." A woman's cry of alarm came to her ears, and with it, her sleeve was tugged at.

She turned around and saw Monica's burgundy-colored, curly hair in big waves.

"What's wrong with you?" As Monica hesitates to get up, she leans down to pull her up.

Unexpectedly, a moment of kindness, but in the next moment, completely overturned her three years of careful maintenance of marriage.

It was not until Daniel came to her office that she learned that Monica had a miscarriage, and that her former classmate, Monica, was pregnant with her husband's child.

The irony of this is not so much that Mrs. Miller, the real Mrs. Miller, knows nothing about it.

She wanted to clarify, to say that she had gone to Monica, but had not even touched her hand, so how could she have had a miscarriage?

But when she tried to say "no," her next words were crushed in her throat by Daniel's aggressive look.

He pinched her chin with a force that seemed to crush her bones, and every word came out from his teeth, as if full of hatred for her, "Alice, are you trying to say that you didn't go to Monica's place? Are you trying to say that you had nothing to do with her miscarriage?"

Tears welled up in her eyes, she didn't want to cry, but she couldn't hold it back, a hot tear overflowed from the corner of her eye, crossed her pretty cheeks, and fell onto his palm. She tilted her head up, her heart was already full of holes, but her expression was still as proud as a swan.

She stared at Daniel's obsidian eyes, trying to squeeze out a smile, "Daniel, I am the real Mrs. Miller, your child can only be born by me, how can I let someone else give you children!"

The man's sight was as cold as a knife, pushing her into despair without mercy.

With his hand raised for the third time, the veins on his forehead rose, suggesting that he was endeavoring to bear it down.

Chapter 4

She did not flinch, in the face of the hand raised above her head, her jaw rose slightly, eyes firmly looked at him, with an unyielding smile in the eyes, "Daniel, three years ago ...... I thought you did not love me it does not matter ...... Because ...... I believe that one day, you will eventually love me ......"

Tears gushed out uncontrollably, she finally realized that what she was pursuing was just an illusory dream, "Today I realize that what I am pursuing is just a flower in the mirror, the moon in the water, not to mention three years, I'm afraid I can't possibly get it in this life."

The shadows gradually dissipate, accompanied by his hand withdrew, heard his waveless voice, low and cold, "Alice......"

He seemed to want to say something, but after a long time, finally failed to speak.

In the end, or she first broke the silence, faintly pulled the corner of the mouth, bitter and sarcastic question, "When did you start?"

"Three years ago." The man hesitated, but still told her the truth.

"Daniel, you guys are so cruel!" Those were the only words she said when she signed the divorce papers.

"Damn, that bitchy couple is so mean, it wasn't three years ago that you and that Miller guy got married, and he actually had a lover then."

As she was taking a shower, the phone suddenly rang. She came back to her senses, saw that it was Linda's number, and quickly picked up the phone. Before she had time to speak, Linda's voice came through the microphone, vibrant and firm.

Linda is her best friend, about the truth of her and Daniel's divorce, she had sent a message to Linda in the cab, but did not tell her that the interloper was her classmate Monica.

Little did she know that Monica, once an unknown, would now become the destroyer of her marriage, subtly winning over her ever-discerning, seemingly perfect husband.

With a small smile, she looked up at the darkly carved ceiling, "It's all in the past, and it's better to know now than in another ten years."

The person on the other end of the line was silent for a while, seemingly considering whether her words were correct, and then spoke again in agreement, "Alice, you're right, besides, you're the daughter of the police commissioner, there's no worry about finding a good man."

The caller kept on talking, and she gradually felt tired in her heart. Obviously she was only twenty-five years old, but she seemed to be as mature as an old man in his seventies. What interrupted her was her own voice, "Linda, I have to go to work tomorrow, I won't talk anymore, you also have an early night."

After hanging up the phone, she did not immediately put the phone down, but opened the address book, clicked on the first number in the queue, the name of the contact "Tom". In order to make sure he was at the top of the list, she purposely added the word "A" in front of it.

Her slender fingers gently ran across the cold screen, and it felt like her wedding night three years ago, when she had the courage to touch his cheek. Three years had passed, and she still remembered the warmth of that touch.

Unfortunately ......

As she said, in these three years of marriage, in addition to the nominal husband and wife relationship, she almost nothing, not even a kiss.

Once a newly married female teacher, came to her to tell her husband's favor to her, and every time she was asked, she could only laugh bitterly in response. It was hard to believe that after three years of marriage, she was still alive and well.

"Alice, don't think I'm afraid to touch you just because your father is the vice mayor!" Daniel was right, so what if she's not, she still can't have her own happiness.

The outside world thought that Daniel's success in the business world had something to do with her, but in fact, the Johnson family knew that his success was entirely due to his own hard work.

That's why she didn't ask for a penny in the divorce; if she didn't pay, why should she ask for anything in return?

As a college teacher, she didn't earn much, but she was able to support herself.

I thought I would lose sleep, I did not expect after the bath, lying in bed for a while, and then fell asleep. When she woke up again, it was the middle of the night, and her thirst woke her up.

Putting on her slippers, she subconsciously wanted to go downstairs to the kitchen to pour water, and when she passed by the door of the master bedroom, she vaguely heard something inside.

She subconsciously stopped her footsteps, late at night, the servants have long been resting, the hustle and bustle of the day the city has returned to quiet, even the sound of a pin drop can be clearly heard.

Martha's voice came first, emotionless, coldly stating the facts, "What now, the tabloids have published, tomorrow those big newspapers, TV will surely write all over the sky about our Johnson's daughter being abandoned."

As the head mother of the Johnson family, how could she bear such a humiliation, not to mention the fact that the outside world did not know that Alice was not her real daughter.

Edward did not immediately refute, seems to consider for a while, before slowly said, "Where you say so serious, you have seen the newspaper, just divorce, in this era of divorce is easier than marriage, no big fuss."

In the end, Alice is his daughter, he will ultimately protect her.

Martha grunted in dissatisfaction, "Whatever you want, anyway, it's not my Emily who's in disgrace."

Then, the lights in the room went out, the surrounding area once again fell into a silence, only the sound of Edward's sigh echoed in the air.

Alice didn't turn on the light, and with the memory of living in this house for more than twenty years, she slowly walked towards the downstairs.

When the stinging pain in her palm made her sit down on the floor, she unintentionally laughed, it was a dog's blood, she had never fallen before, but today she had fallen.

Before she got up, the lights in the living room suddenly came on, the blinding white light made it almost impossible for her to open her eyes.

Before she could see the scene in front of her, she heard an ear-piercing sarcasm, "Oh, my family is not so poor that I can't even pay the electricity bill, right?"

Alice, used to the light, tried to open her eyes, but did not look directly at the person in front of her, and silently patted away the dust on her body.

As far as she could remember, Emily had said a few nasty things to her over the past twenty years, and she had long since stopped caring about the details.

Emily saw that she did not respond, contemptuously cold snort, walked to her, "Alice, listening to Mommy said you divorced, I have long said, Daniel such a person, you do not deserve."

Chapter 5

It was a statement that brought to light, once again, the facts she had deliberately tried to keep under wraps, mercilessly.

Alice Johnson continued to ignore her, walking around her, in the direction of the kitchen.

Emily Johnson, clearly not intending to let her off the hook, reached out to stop her, "You're a disgrace to the Johnson family!"

Alice finally raised her head, coldly looked at the so-called sister in her mouth, "What does it matter if I lose face, the key is that you give the Johnson family face is not enough."

Don't think she won't say harsh words, just don't want to say. In the Johnson family, as an illegitimate daughter grew up, she heard the ridicule has long been accumulated into a habit.

Emily froze in place while Alice stopped looking at her and headed straight for the kitchen. She was thirsty, and that one short sentence made her feel like she'd used up the only moisture in her mouth.

"Hey, Alice, how dare you say that to me!" Emily chased after her, snatching her glass of water.

Alice, wanting nothing but water, frowned and reached for Emily's glass.

Unexpected sound broke the silence, the cup broke into pieces on the floor, Emily covered her face and ran to the living room, "Mom, come down, oooh ......"

Seeing the slight bloodstain on her baby girl's face, Martha Green was so distressed that she almost cried, "Emily, what's wrong? Who hit you?"

She intended to find out the culprit immediately.

The water cup was broken, Alice had to use the bowl to pour water to drink. Just as she opened her mouth, the bowl was snatched from her hand, she was annoyed, "What's the end of this, why don't you even let me have a drink of water in peace."

"Alice!" Martha's voice almost sounded together with the sound of the bowl falling, sharp and angry, "Did you cause the injury on Emily's face? Who gave you the nerve?"

For the past three years, she'd stopped being sarcastic to her, more or less because Daniel had been decent to her. Now that Daniel had nothing to do with her, she no longer had to pretend to be a loving mother.

Alice looked up at the angry middle-aged woman, her head spinning, the people in front of her eyes spinning and blurring.

"Don't play dumb here, I'm warning you, if you don't give a clear account of what happened today, you won't be able to sleep!" Martha's voice with a pressing pressure, like a mother hen protecting her chickens.

"Stop it!" Alice felt a burning headache, and couldn't help holding her head, crouching to the floor, "Stop it!" She could barely make a sound from her dry mouth, and kept mumbling these three words.

Alice who dared to talk back shocked Martha a little, she almost wondered if she had heard wrong. Alice had been unusually quiet and obedient ever since she'd let the servants spill her secret about the Johnsons not being first-born ladies.

Now that she was divorced from Daniel, Alice had the audacity to fight back, which gave her a lot of courage!

Alice didn't care what Martha thought, all she could think was that her head hurt, her mouth was dry, and her mind was in a trance, she didn't even know who she was anymore.

Suddenly, with the sound of steady footsteps, a familiar scent greeted her, as if the rain had been pouring in from a long drought, and she held her last ounce of strength as she looked up at her visitor.

Sure enough, her hallucination had come true, the person in front of her was Daniel, who had just gotten divorced.

Her ex-husband, Daniel Miller.

If she remembered correctly, in the past three years, he had never come to the Johnson house with her, except for the usual holiday visits.

Late at night, he'd be at the hospital with Monica, who'd just had a miscarriage, not in the warmth-less Johnson Mansion.

Her body lightened, and she immediately left the ground. Immediately afterward, a steady voice rang in everyone's ears, "She's sick."

The tone was not reproachful, but showed obvious displeasure.

"Brother-in-law." In a daze, Emily called out, her voice carrying an unexpected note of delight.

"It's cold." Feeling Daniel just stop in his tracks, she shivered and scrambled toward his warm embrace.

Daniel picked up Alice, whose consciousness was fading, and without stopping for a second, took a big step forward, and his upright figure quickly disappeared into the night.

"Mom, he actually ignored me!" Emily complained to Martha, who was also frozen in place.

Martha was in a state of shock, hugging her daughter tightly, "Silly child, my Emily is so beautiful, how could he ignore you."

"Then why did he ...... just now," Emily asked, she is not stupid, just now Daniel picked up Alice's face when the tension, she saw it, "Mom, you did not say they are divorced? How ...... does it feel at all."

Martha is also puzzled, holding her daughter into the living room, looking for a band-aid to put on her, "He came to find Alice must be because of the divorce, as a man, when he saw her sick, even the ex-wife will not stand by. In other words, if the heart is so small that he doesn't even care about his ex-wife's illness, that kind of person is not worth liking."

She was trying her best to comfort her daughter. In the past three years, although she hadn't seen Daniel many times, she had inevitably heard one or two rumors about him in high-end social occasions.

It was said that Daniel was a tough guy in the mall, and almost no one had ever seen him smile, but even so, he was still the most popular figure among the women in the city.

A combination of charm and wealth.

After comforting her daughter, Martha went upstairs to her room, and when she pushed open the door, she saw Edward Johnson sitting up from his bed, an old man who had been awakened from a deep sleep by the sound of the engine.

"Emily gone out?" he inquired of his wife. He asked his wife.

Martha grimaced, "My daughter is a real lady, she can't be out in the middle of the night with just anyone." She subtly sarcastically commented on Alice's birth and upbringing.

Unfortunately, she forgot that Alice had been brought home by Edward Johnson as a baby, and had grown up in this villa.
