Beneath the Weight of Laughter

Chapter 1

"Jess, I want to talk to you about something." Megan, on the bottom bunk, reaches over and knocks on the top bunk.

Jessica looks up, sees the long, white hand, and probes down, grabbing a handful of chips in the process. Her face was as round as the fifteenth moon, and her long, thin eyes were blurred by the flesh on her face. If you want to find a good point, maybe it is her long black hair, just not washed for three days, it looks a little greasy.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Can we switch beds, you take the bottom bunk, I'll take the top." Megan offered carefully.

"Why should we switch?" Jessica grabbed another handful of chips, crunching them.

Megan forced a smile, "I was afraid you'd collapse the bed."

"Don't worry, this bed is very sturdy, don't believe you see." Jessica said, shaking her body, and the bed creaked.

Megan's smile froze on her face, "You look so heavy, it's not convenient to get on and off, let's change it."

"You're afraid that I'll collapse the bed and you'll be crushed into a meat pie underneath, right?" Jessica couldn't stop laughing, while Megan and Fiona, the other two students in the bedroom, were shocked and looked at her like she was a fool. When she stops laughing, she seriously hands Megan the bag of chips she finished eating, "Throw it away for me, please."

Megan's face sank, "You're so heavy, move around more, okay?"

"I don't want to move."

"Then why don't you just eat the bag together, that would save you a lot of trouble?" Megan finished her sentence and looked at Fiona, the two of them looked at each other and burst into laughter.

Jessica looked dumbfounded this time. She slowly climbed out of bed, threw the garbage into the trash can, and was about to climb back to her bunk when the door to her bedroom was suddenly kicked open with a thud by Samantha, a guy who was always on the verge of a panic attack, and Jessica was used to it.

"Samantha, how many times have I told you to take care of things?" Megan was the first to step forward with an accusation.

Samantha nodded perfunctorily, then grabbed Jessica's thick arm, "Nate brought you a present."

"He's downstairs?"

"Yeah, downstairs."

"You met him downstairs?"

"Ah, he sent you down to get your present."

"Then why didn't you bring the gift up, and I had to go down and get it myself!" Jessica had a look of hatred on her face.

Samantha couldn't hold it in, 'pfft' laughed out, pinched Jessica's big face: "Look at how fat you've gotten, even pigs are skinnier than you, you're running up the stairs a few more times as a diet."

"Big sister, this is the fourth floor."

"I know, lose weight."

Jessica: ......

Five minutes later, Jessica finally got out of the dormitory in order to get her gift. It didn't take much effort to go downstairs, but she was still a bit tired.Jessica's only hobby since she was a child was eating, eating during the day and night, eating before going to bed, eating when she woke up, and at only nineteen years of age, she already weighed 200 pounds, and she would rather lie down on her bed and eat a packet of chili fries than take a step forward.

Nate, with whom she grew up, is tall and lean, with handsome features, and she is almost twice as wide as he is.

Jessica walked out of the dormitory building, and saw Nate standing under the dappled shadow of the trees, slender, with a picturesque smile on his face, at first glance, as if he were a teenager who came out of a comic book.

"Three months late birthday gift, you still have the face to send?" She gasped.

Nate hooked his mouth with a smile, handed her the square box in his hand, and teased with a smile, "You're panting like this even when you're going downstairs, you should control your weight a little bit."

"I can't, eating is my greatest joy in life."

"Don't you look in the mirror? Your face is bigger than a cafeteria pie." Nate said as he exaggeratedly opened his hands and made a gesture like a pie.

She snorted with laughter and couldn't wait to open the box, which turned out to be a Digital Scale.

"You really need this." Nate said bitterly.

"No, I don't need it, next time you come over please bring me some snacks, you know all my favorites."

"You keep that up and I'm going to cut you off."

Jessica tilted her head in serious thought, "This is the two hundred and forty-eighth time you've asked to be disowned, I'll let you have it, see you soon."

She turned around and walked back to the dormitory building, leaving Nate alone in the wind. Looking at the stairs in front of her, she shuddered and shivered several times, and after an internal struggle, she finally moved her thick legs and climbed up one step at a time. After climbing to the fourth floor with great difficulty, she was about to push open the door of the dormitory, when Nate's phone called in.

"What?" She growled under her breath.

Nate: "I found a great kebab place, want to eat?"

"I ......"

At this moment, Jessica's urge to explode her mouth is far greater than the temptation of kebabs, but considering that she really wants to eat kebabs, she took a deep breath, swallowed the words that came to her mouth, and seriously replied, "I want to."

"Go downstairs, I'll take you to eat."

"...... you just let me up ......" she secretly thought in her heart, this goods is actually deliberately teasing her, just how not to mention the kebabs with her, and not wait for her to climb up the stairs before mentioning, it is really intentional! It's really on purpose!

......

Five minutes later, Jessica pulled Samantha together downstairs.

She's an experienced eater, but she's not fat, she's skinny as a bamboo pole, and she's the envy of the world. The image of Jessica pulling Samantha down the stairs looks to Nate like a malnourished person holding an overnourished pig.

It's not a good look!

Three people walk out of the school, Jessica walk in the middle, height is not short, one meter six five, such a standard girl's height, matched in Jessica, but it looks tall and strong, five big three thick.

Nate's kebab store is located diagonally across the street from State University, a newly opened restaurant, and the business is booming at the end of the day Jessica is sitting alone, Nate and Samantha are sitting across from her, and when she is ordering, she feels that the two of them are looking at her strangely, and she feels a little uncomfortable about it.

"What kind of looks are you guys giving me?"

Samantha hit Nate with her arm, Nate did not change his face, said seriously, "Jess, you seem to have gained weight, I'm worried that your parents won't recognize you when you come home from vacation."

"...... Don't you have any other pursuits besides eating?"

Jessica handed the menu to Samantha, glanced at the next table's pair of handsome men and women, said with no bottom, "I still lack a boyfriend."

Chapter 2

Jessica Hughes comes from a privileged family. Her parents run a large supermarket, which she is destined to take over in the future. She grew up with a carefree life, living from hand to mouth, eating whatever she wanted, playing as much as she wanted, and only regretting the lack of a boyfriend.

When she was in high school, her parents told her, "Studying is more important, and it's not too late to fall in love when you get into a good college." She believed them and studied hard while her parents tried a little harder to get into State University, but she put in 100% effort and sweat, trying desperately to get a good grade.

Jess grew up thinking she wasn't much of a student, so she didn't set high goals, and even though she got into State University with less than stellar grades, she was very content with that. College life was a lot easier than high school, and she had more time to find good food. She was five years old when Nathan Parker gave her a lollipop every day. In elementary school, he would always share his snacks with her, a tradition that continued through high school. With Nathan struggling as he approached his senior year of high school, there was little contact between the two.

Nathan got into a major university out of state, but instead of going there, he came to State University to keep an eye on her, checking to see if she'd put on too much weight one day. That's right, he's afraid she's going to get fat!

"There's no such thing as a fat death in this world." She was dismissive of this.

Nathan shook his head, began to list a long list of the dangers of obesity: "Obesity can easily lead to high blood pressure, high blood fat, coronary heart disease, fatty liver, high blood sugar, diabetes,...... and even sleep apnea syndrome, I sleep with a snoring sound can be louder than a man. "

After listening to her smile and said, "Which is so exaggerated."

The next day, Nathan secretly recorded her snoring, put in front of her parents, scared her on the spot.

"Jess, should I order or not?" Samantha Mills handed Jessica her menu, and Jessica's thoughts were pulled back.

"I- can I have a kebab?" Samantha meowed, rousing Jessica's senses with success.

Jessica took the menu and scanned it, saying boldly, "First, fifty barbecued wings, then fifty barbecued shrimps, and ......" Before she could finish her sentence, Nathan snatched the menu, pointing at a slim beauty at the next table: "I look at others, and then look at me."

"She's a natural."

"From now on, I'm going to keep a tight rein on my weight, and I'm not going to get any fatter."

Jessica was a bit dissatisfied: "But I want to eat ......"

"No, tomorrow you help me make a set of weight loss meals, I have to strictly follow the plan, get up at six o'clock in the morning every day, run ten laps around the playground, you are responsible for supervising me."

Jessica's slender eyes widened, the spotlight of the small eyes stared fixedly at Nathan, surprised, "I'm not really serious with you."

Nathan gave her a haughty look and told her to appreciate it.

The weight loss program was supposed to start the day after they started school, but Jessica and Nathan put it off for over a month, making Nathan forget about it.

She's trying to think of other ways to get rid of Nathan, and while she's thinking about it, the couple at the next table starts a love show that quickly catches her eye.

"Honey, come on." The handsome man peeled a grilled shrimp and handed it to his female companion, who took it shyly, blushing, and said softly, "Thank you, husband."

"If my wife likes to eat shrimp, my husband will peel shrimp for her for the rest of her life."

"Hubby, you're so nice."

Jessica nearly rolled her eyes at what this public display of affection was doing! They don't look like State University students, they're all so sweet on campus that it's exhausting, the kind of early love that happens when you're a student and then you go your separate ways as soon as you graduate, it's so boring!

Jessica heart spit when, Nathan has already ordered the meal, he ordered the amount of food per person is the normal three people, the result Jessica only ate to three points of satiety. After leaving the kebab store, Jessica passed by a supermarket, she wanted to go in to buy some snacks, but she was dragged away by Nathan and Samantha one by one.

"We can't treat her like this, are we abusing her?"

Nathan looked at her sideways, "Abusing what? Abusing a pig?"

"I didn't get enough, I really didn't."

"Not if you want to be full."

"Nathan, my God."

"She doesn't have a big day."

"I ......." Jessica really didn't have a better comeback technique, and was about to think about how to spit on Nathan when a bright sight passed in front of her.

It was a tall, amiable-looking teenager, with black hair that made his skin as red as snow, and a slight smile that made Jessica's heart flutter.

Jessica stared blankly at the handsome young man, even forgetting that she was being dragged by Nathan and Samantha. The teenager greeted Nathan, "Remember to take my roll in the afternoon class."

Nathan responded, "Don't worry about it."

The teenager's gaze turned to Jessica, a faint glance, coupled with a gentlemanly smile, made Jessica's heart skip a beat.

The teenager walks in the opposite direction, while she is dragged towards the girls' dormitory building by Nathan and Samantha.

"Nathan, who was that boy back there?"

Nathan was sweating profusely and didn't have the energy to continue talking to her. After dragging her to the dormitory building, he wiped the sweat from his forehead and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Nathan, who the hell was that guy back there?" Jessica's bright eyes kept asking.

"He's my roommate Ethan Cooper."

"You should have introduced me to him."

Nathan looked at her with a monster stare, "What did I say?"

"Introduce me to him, he should be my type."

Nathan held his forehead helplessly, "Sis, you suggested I go back to my dorm room and look in the mirror first."

Jessica was speechless ......

Samantha on the other side can't help but laugh out loud, frozen in place by Jessica's murderous stare.

"What's my name again." Nathan adjusted his breath, staring at Samantha half a day could not remember her name, so he stopped thinking, orthochromatic: "It doesn't matter what you call it, but I'll take care of all your snacks upstairs, definitely not give you a chance to steal food, that guy will be useless if he eats like that again."

"Her name is Samantha."

"Whatever her name is, I remember exactly what she just said."

Samantha is also speechless ......

"She can't move, I'll do it." Jessica clenched her fists, lifted her chin fiercely, the sun shone through the window illuminating her small face, and said combatively, "I, Jessica Hughes, have finally found a new direction in life."

The teenager with the rosy lips and beautiful face was her new direction in life.

Nathan and Samantha shot her a dumb look.

Chapter 3

“Tomorrow morning at six, right? I’ll be there on the playground. Don’t forget to supervise me.” Jessica Hughes said as she turned and walked into the dorm building.

She was off to handle her snacks!

Nathan Parker stood there, completely bewildered. Ever since they met at the age of six, Jessica had been a bottomless pit for food, eating everything in sight—more than most pigs! By the time she turned fifteen, it was clear she wasn’t growing much taller, but instead was expanding horizontally. Since then, he had advised her countless times to watch her weight. Now, at two hundred pounds, she showed no sign of remorse.

And just moments ago, Ethan Cooper, with a simple smile, had sparked a shift in this food-loving giant’s life, urging her to embark on a weight loss journey? Could he trust that?

...

As Jessica reached the stairwell, she stared up at the long flight of stairs before her, her nerves kicking in. Following closely, Samantha Mills brushed past her, gracefully climbing the steps one by one.

With a sigh, Jessica followed suit.

By the time they reached the fourth floor, her heart hammered in her chest, and she was panting like she'd run a marathon.

Samantha pulled her to the dormitory door, which stood ajar. Just before Samantha pushed it open, Jessica heard muffled giggles from inside—Megan Hayes and Fiona Jacobs were in the middle of making fun of her. She quickly grabbed Samantha’s outstretched arm to stop her.

“Are you sure about this? That heavy girl will come back and explode in anger,” Fiona teased.

Megan laughed. “That’s exactly the plan! I don’t want to sleep on the bottom bunk and worry about it collapsing under her weight every night.”

“She really is too large. She wasn’t this big when we first started school.”

“Never underestimate how fast pigs can grow! Oh wait, she definitely beats pigs in that department.”

“Calling her a pig is an insult to actual pigs!”

Their laughter echoed in the hallway.

Samantha's cheeks puffed out in anger as she clenched her fists. “This is too much!”

Jessica felt a surge of anger as well. This was the first time someone’s ridicule about her weight had cut so deep it hurt her insides.

“I’ll go teach them a lesson!” Samantha declared as she prepared to storm inside.

“No, no, let me handle it.” Jessica maintained her composure, narrowing her small eyes. A glint of mischief sparkled in her gaze as she grinned, “I’ve got this.”

Samantha paused in surprise.

With that, Jessica pushed the dorm door wide open and strode in confidently.

Megan had suddenly swapped their beds, with Jessica's bed now moved to the bottom, completely disheveled, while her own was perfectly organized—the sheets stiff as if they could cut glass.

Without a second thought, Jessica climbed up to the top bunk, leaving Megan and Fiona speechless.

Not only was she hefty, but she seemed oblivious too!

Didn’t she realize her own bedding had been moved? Why was she even climbing up?
“Jess, I just went through a lot of trouble to swap the beds,” Megan said with an exaggerated fake smile.

Jessica didn’t even bother to take off her shoes as she trampled around on Megan’s bed.

“Megan, hurry up! The bottom bunk is yours; don’t dirty mine with your shoes!”

“Oh, then I’d appreciate it if you could be a dear and switch it back to how it was.”

Megan was left speechless.

“The top bunk is mine. I didn’t agree to swap. It’s incredibly rude to move my stuff without asking.”

“I’m merely looking out for you; it’s inconvenient for you to keep climbing up and down.”

“Thanks for your concern, but I prefer the top.”

Megan trembled with fury, her face pale with disbelief.

What could she do? Of course, she had to switch it back.

To avoid further aggravation, Jessica climbed down and stood watch like an overseer while Megan rearranged their beds, reminding her to make those sheets absolutely perfect.

Fiona, unable to bear it anymore, chipped in, “Hey, Jess, Megan’s just trying to help. Being as big as you are, climbing up and down isn’t safe. What if you fall?”

Jessica suddenly found her words striking a chord. She nodded in agreement, “That’s true! How did I not consider that? Maybe I should begrudgingly swap with Megan after all?”

Megan’s expression was priceless.

Jessica turned to Megan and smirked, “Can you do me a favor and switch my bed back down? I wouldn’t want you worrying about being squashed into a pancake someday.”

Megan was internally screaming—she had just fixed the bed!

Seeing Megan standing there, furious and motionless, Jessica scratched her head, “I see now you’re not interested in switching.”

“Of course! Switch, switch, switch!” Megan snapped, her annoyance surfacing as she repacked everything reluctantly, restoring Jessica's bed to its rightful place.

Jessica admired the neat pile of blankets now stacked perfectly and nodded appreciatively. She walked over to the cabinet by the door, opened it, and pulled out all her snacks, declaring loudly, “From now on, I won’t be eating any more snacks. You can have these!”

Megan and Fiona’s eyes lit up at the sight of the overflowing bag of treats as they rushed toward her, arms outstretched.

Jessica tossed a few bags of chips at Samantha, who caught them deftly, placing them on her bed. More snacks followed, and soon, all of Jessica’s snacks were claimed by Samantha.

Megan and Fiona were left with awkward faces.

What happened to the promise to share?

...

In the afternoon, Megan and Fiona headed off to class, leaving only Samantha and Jessica in the dorm.

Samantha sat cross-legged on her bed, happily snacking while watching Jessica struggle with her sit-ups on the bed across from her.

“Come on, two! Two!” Samantha encouraged.

It was unbelievable that half an hour had gone by and Jessica had only completed one sit-up.

That’s right—one!

Jessica was drenched in sweat, struggling to lift herself up for a second.
“This is way too hard, like impossibly hard.”

Samantha chuckled, exasperated, “You really want to lose weight?”

“Of course!” Jessica was self-aware. Unless she turned into a svelte goddess, there’s no way she could face Ethan Cooper.

He was so tall and charming, the epitome of perfection! She wanted to be the perfect goddess by his side, and no one would stand in her way.

Yet, another thirty minutes passed, and still, not a second sit-up was achieved.

Samantha, having polished off her third snack bag, stretched her arm for a wet wipe on the windowsill, shaking her head in disbelief, “Seriously, I think you should just give up.”

Having done only one sit-up in an hour, the rest of the time spent resting on her bed? What a legend!

Jessica felt utterly exhausted; she needed a break.

Chapter 4

"I'm skipping dinner today." Jessica Hughes said.

She really didn't eat.

Yet at night she can't sleep because she's hungry, eyeing the snacks on Samantha Mills' bed.

The moonlight poured through the window on her and Samantha's bed, just enough to make out the bags of snacks on Samantha's bed.

The brightly colored packages were like stars in the night, glittering seductively.

I want to eat.

I really want to eat it.

She swallowed, and gritted her teeth to keep from stealing it.

But she didn't sleep well at night, and naturally she couldn't wake up in the morning.

At six o'clock, Nathan Parker's phone called right on time, and Jessica was woken up by his urgent call. She rubbed her sleepy eyes and fished her cell phone out from under her pillow.

"Hello."

"Where's that lap you said you'd run, and where are you?"

"I'm still in my room."

"I'll give you five minutes. Come here right now."

"Can you give me fifteen minutes?"

She wanted to squint for another ten minutes.

"Five minutes, right now."

"......."

Hanging up the phone, Jessica got up weakly, dragging her tired body into the bathroom to wash up.

Five minutes later, she walked downstairs.

Nathan was patiently waiting for her on the playground.

It was a beautiful day, the sun was not too strong and there was a cool breeze, making it a good time for a morning jog. He was dressed in casual clothes, with a bottle of water in his hand, and his tall, lean, and straight posture made him look attractive even in his ordinary clothes.

His eyes kept looking in the direction of the dormitory building, and when he saw Jessica staggering towards him in the distance, he waved his hand.

"Run over here."

He shouted, and Jessica immediately quickened her pace, her flesh swaying gently with her movements.

It was the first time Jessica had ever come to her morning run so obediently, Nathan had waited for her many times before and she had always gotten stood up.

Nathan was in a very good mood when Jessica came.

After Jessica ran two laps, he began to supervise her.

Running to the third lap, Jessica looks quite hard, a lap of the playground is 400 meters, she has insisted on running through two laps, which is already quite difficult for her.

"Hang in there, finish the third lap, it doesn't matter if you're a little slow, the most important thing is to hang in there."

Jessica was panting and sweating.

"So can we still run the remaining seven laps?"

Nathan had said yesterday that he would let her run ten laps of the playground, ten laps was four kilometers, and that was a hell of a workout.

"Three laps will be enough." Nathan responded.

On the first day, Jessica was able to run two laps, Nathan was already surprised, not to mention that she is the kind of person who can sit, never stand, can lie down, never sit, never exercise, it is impossible to over-train at once.

After supervising Jessica's third lap, he walked to her and handed her the water in his hand.

Jessica took the water and drank half of it, then ran to the shade of a tree to rest.

"How do you feel?"

Nathan approached her and stood fixedly in front of her, looking down at her.

Jessica wiped the sweat from her forehead and simply summarized, "Tired."

If I had known that losing weight is so hard, I should have eaten less before.

"Everything is difficult at the beginning, you performed well today, I'll treat you to eat out for breakfast."

Jessica heard this, the original listless eyes instantly shone: "Okay, okay."

Using the time now, Nathan taught Jessica some stretching movements, "Starting tomorrow, first walk slowly in the playground for two laps, then run, remember to do stretching exercises after running."

After finishing the stretching exercises, it was finally time for Jessica's anticipated breakfast.

Nathan took her for a walk of more than 500 meters, and found a congee store, Nathan took the liberty of ordering her a small bowl of vegetable congee, yes, just a small bowl, it was smaller than Jessica's face.

Jessica almost cried when she saw the bowl of porridge in front of her.

"You're treating me to this?"

"Considering that we're in college, we can't exactly follow the diet I've made for you, so we can only choose three meals that are low in calories but with certain nutrition." Nathan said, while pulling out a small black book from his pocket, on which was the diet plan he made for Jessica.

Jessica almost gasped as she read the entries in the book.

"This ...... menu doesn't have a lick of grease in it."

Nathan covered his face and snickered, "My pig, you're fat like this, what more grease do you need?"

"Your menu is so vegetarian, you'd be better off giving it to a rabbit."

"Please imagine yourself as the rabbit."

"But rabbits get fat on a vegetarian diet."

"......."

"Besides rabbits, cows are vegetarians, sheep are vegetarians, and pandas, they're all fat."

Nathan coughed and said seriously, "Don't go that far, you're not a rabbit, you're not a cow or a sheep, and you're not a panda."

"Then you just told me to imagine myself as a rabbit."

"Don't contradict me."

Jessica lowered her head aggressively, stared at the vegetable porridge and struggled for a while, finally picking up the spoon and started to eat it, the flavor was pitifully bland.

After a few bites, she raised her head and muttered, "Can we have a side dish?"

"No."

"......"

That's so mean.

"Starting today, keep track of your weight, every day."

"Oh."

"And ......."

Nathan began to go on and on in a serious manner, admonishing her about the prohibition on sneaking in snacks and small meals and the like.

"Did you get rid of all the snacks yesterday?"

Jessica nodded, "Gave it all to Samantha."

"Good."

"What if Samantha gains weight? Then I'll be doing her a disservice."

"It's time for her to gain weight."

"......"

After Jessica reluctantly finishes her vegetable porridge, Nathan tells her in detail about Ethan Cooper.

"He's my roommate, great personality, currently single, the man of the hour at State University, good looking, with more suitors than I can count. He's a music major with a piano concentration, and he's in the Drama Club, the Literary Club, and the Volunteer Group, and he's organized his own band."

"What clubs are you in?"

"Well, I'm only in one, Volunteer Group."

"Then I'll join that one too."

"This club is about going out and volunteering at old people's homes and Sunshine Orphanage, are you sure you're up to it?"

Jessica nodded heavily, "If you can, of course I can."

In fact, it's because Ethan and Nathan are both in this club, that's why she wants to join, so that with Nathan as the middleman, she can get acquainted with Ethan more quickly.

She thought Nathan didn't know what she had in mind, but in fact he had already seen through it, he just didn't say anything.

Chapter 5

Walking out of the congee store, Jessica Hughes' eyes went to the campus 500 meters away, and her heart trembled. She followed Nathan slowly, and after being urged by him several times, she finally made her way to the school.

"I'm tired ......" she said as she reached the school's entrance, her legs feeling as if they were about to cramp up.

"You carry me." She looked at Nathan expectantly.

Nathan froze, almost falling to the ground.

"You carry me for a while, my legs hurt."

"It's a bit uncomfortable after exercising, why don't you go back to your dorm room and take a shower to rest."

Nathan didn't respond positively, exasperated, she blanched. "I said, you carry me for a while."

"I can't."

"......"

So honest?

The two stared at each other in silence, the air was breathtakingly quiet.

After a few minutes, Jessica Hughes sighed and compromised, "Forget it, I'll go by myself."

She didn't want to make things too difficult for Nathan, after all, she herself was a little fat ......

Walking slowly, she noticed that Nathan also slowed down, silently following her.

At that moment, a sweet voice suddenly came from behind her.

"Nathan, this is for you."

When she turned around, she saw a girl with an excited face, standing in front of Nathan with an exquisite gift box in both hands, the gift was obviously for Nathan. The girl had long black hair, and her big watery eyes were sparkling.

"Thank you." Nathan did not hesitate to accept the gift, and opened it in front of the girl, but it was a box of beautifully decorated chocolates.

The girl covered her face with excitement, "Nathan, how have you thought about joining the club?"

"Which club?" Nathan looked puzzled.

"Comic Club."

"Oh."

"When are you joining? I've got the application form in my hand, would you like me to give it to you now?"

"No."

He hadn't really thought about joining Comic Club, and while his manga skills were top-notch, the mention of cosplaying there had put him off unceremoniously.

"Ethan already filled out the application, are you sure you don't want to?"

At that moment, Jessica Hughes was intrigued.

"Can I join your club?" She asked cautiously, looking askance at the chocolate in the girl's hand and swallowing.

"You?" The girl looked at her through her glasses, from top to bottom, her tone full of dislike.

"We have a very high standard of image for our members." The girl said.

Jessica Hughes knew that she was disgusted with her fatness and ugliness. She smiled coldly, originally ready to turn around and leave, but did not expect Nathan to reach out and put his arm around her shoulder, smilingly said to the girl, "If she doesn't add, I won't add."

She gave Nathan a look that said, "That's really nice," and walked with him towards the dormitory building, while the girl chased after her with a big stride, handing her the application form, her eyes full of enthusiasm: "Welcome to the Comic Club."

"I thought you guys said you had a high image requirement for members?" Jessica Hughes pretended to be embarrassed and didn't take the application form.

The girl's face was solicitous: "It's just for individuals, you're a special case."

"Never mind, I'm suddenly not interested."

"No, I take it back."

Jessica Hughes had been inspired by Nathan's comics since she was a child, and had always enjoyed watching them, even if she couldn't draw much herself.

The girl's face was full of pleading, "Please, join."

Jessica Hughes realized that the girl's attitude had changed because if she didn't join, Nathan wouldn't either. It was obvious how much the girl wanted Nathan to join, and she was pleading with her so much.

Considering Nathan's love for drawing comics, she took the application and murmured, "I'll think about it."

"When's the earliest you can give me an answer?" A flash of anticipation flashed in the girl's eyes.

"Tomorrow."

"Good, you must join, I'll wait for your good news."

"Hehe ......"

The girl finished currying favor, then turned her eyes to Nathan and said with a smile, "It's a deal, if she's in, you're in, no denying it."

Nathan's face showed an awkward look.

"Your manga is really very good, it's a shame you didn't join our club." The girl added.

"See what she means." Nathan signaled Jessica Hughes.

The girl doesn't look at Jessica Hughes, but takes an application form out of her pocket and hands it to him.

"Give me an answer tomorrow at the latest, I'll leave now, I made the chocolates myself, you must remember to eat them, remember to give me feedback if they taste good or not."

After saying that, the girl secretly left with a blush on her face.

Jessica Hughes slightly lowered her eyes, glanced at the chocolate in Nathan's hand, her heart instantly had some small expectations.

"Looks like you've attracted a suitor, who even made chocolates for you." She teased.

Nathan smiled, "Average."

Before, he would give Jessica Hughes all the snacks from her suitors without a second thought, but now that Jessica Hughes had started to lose weight, the chocolates made it a bit difficult for him.

He looked around, and when he saw the trash can, he walked up without hesitation, and threw the chocolate in.

"Hey, you ......"

Jessica Hughes didn't have time to stop, seeing the delicious chocolate being thrown into the garbage can by Nathan like this, her heart was like a knife.

"You don't want to eat it, you can give it to me."

"You're basically saying goodbye to chocolate." Nathan said seriously, pointing to the girls' dormitory building, "Go back by yourself, I won't see you off."

"By the way, do you want to join Comic Club?"

"I've thought about it."

"You've always loved comics, so why haven't you joined a club?"

"If you join, I'll join."

"So do I join or not?"

"You decide."

"Then of course I want to join."

Ethan had joined, so how could she not.

Nathan seemed to have read her mind, smiling thoughtfully, "It's good that you're happy."

......

After parting ways with Nathan, Jessica Hughes walked back to her dorm room in the increasingly harsh sunlight, and as soon as she entered the door, she was met with strange stares from her roommates.Samantha looked at her with surprise, realizing that Jessica Hughes' bed was no longer as messy as it used to be, and that the quilt was folded up neatly on the bed.

"Where have you been?" Samantha's round almond eyes widened.

"Running laps in the playground."

"You really went?"

"Bullshit."

"Are you really going on a diet?"

"Of course."

She smiled slightly, her mind traveling to Ethan's handsome face.

To be able to chase after the man of her choice, she knew she had to work hard and sweat.

"What's that in your hand?" Samantha jumped off the bed, leaning in to snatch the application from her hand.

"You're joining Comic Club."

"Uh-huh."

"I thought you said joining a club was too much trouble?"

"It's a bit of a hassle, but it's a rare opportunity."
